For sale is an original Gretsch Snare drum. This is chrome on brass version of the 4160 model, and I have had this drum aged as being made somewhere between 1964-1966.

It is from the very collectable ‘round badge’ era. These drums are renowned for being excellent quality, and were what originally put Gretsch on the map as being one of the top drum makers.

The 4160 model has just been re-released in the Gretsch collector’s edition range due to their popularity. This is your chance to own an original snare from the 60’s and not a copy.

I have looked after this snare for years, and it has always remained inside a good quality protection racket case which is included in the sale. The snare has light markings on the surface, but nothing that I would consider shows the drums age (over 40 years old). It still shines like new, and certainly cannot be seen when standing away from the snare. Most people cannot believe how good the condition of the snare is and I have received many compliments when I have gigged with it.

The snare comes complete with Evans Genera hd top skin, a Evans Snare side 300 hazy bottom skin, both of which are still in good condition and shouldn’t need replacing unless you want to change the sound.

The snare still has the original dampener inside the snare, and an original Gretsch drum key, which connects to the shell to prevent it being lost. All of it is functioning beautifully. I personally think it is the nicest snare I have heard. It really packs a punch when it needs to, and rim shots sound amazing. I found I have equally been able to get a great sound from playing a quiet backbeat with ghost notes. It has a really warm sound.
