Cantium Brass Band Canterbury Kent
Cantium Brass are based in the South East of England near the historic city of Canterbury. The Band is widely regarded as one of the finest musical institutions in Kent. Made up of a dedicated team of 20 to 25 players, the band performs a full calendar of events throughout the South East. We are currently looking for a Solo Horn Player and Cornet Players.
The band is run as a registered charity, and all players are voluntary. Cantium Brass has a history dating back to 1886 when it was known as the Garlinge Wesleyan Mission Band. It later became the Margate Silver Band and functioned as such until the Second World War, the new name of Cantium Brass being adopted when the band finally left Margate in May 1998. The move to Canterbury, together with the purchase of a new bandroom, has allowed the band to capitalise upon many recent successes as well as being more geographically situated for the majority of the players.
The Band is directed by John Goold L.R.A.M. M.I.S.M, a retired Warrant Officer Bandmaster of the Royal Marines School of Music in Deal. John has devoted his entire life to music and is deeply passionate about brass banding. He has directed the band since 1990, taking the band from 4th Section to 1st Section of the Southern Counties Amateur Brass Band Association. He is widely known and respected in both Military and Brass Band Circles and we are privileged to have such a fine, dedicated and experienced conductor leading us.
